Methodology & citation

Counts reflect consumer-facing listings in the Farms Near Me directory: farms, farm stands, farmers markets, CSAs and agritourism operations that sell or host the public, compiled from the USDA Local Food Directories, the USDA Organic INTEGRITY database and 35+ state agriculture programs (see full source list). They are not a census of all agricultural operations: USDA counts every commodity operation, while we track places you can visit or buy from. Coverage varies by state with the quality of published records. Per-capita figures use 2020 Census populations.
